The way to the top of any guild is through hard work. The thieves guild is no different. So when her overseers told Tesia she had proven she was ready for a new assignment, that she had showed her potential and prowess.. a simple snatch and grab was pretty much what she was expecting. Praise never precedes the “good” jobs.

In, out, skip town and make the delivery. Child’s play (no halfling jokes please). That was how it was supposed to go. No one mentioned the 7 armed assassins, no one mentioned the box whispering to her…. telling her where to turn and which way to run. No one told her what was in the box…or what to do if she couldn’t get it out of town. No one told her anything.

So when the lock on the box was destroyed by an assassin’s crossbow bolt… headed for her heart mind you. Tesia did what any thief would do… she put sand in the box to make it weigh the same.. ditched it where it could be found and ran with whatever was inside..

She had no intention of reading the book… no intention of even looking at it… she went to ground.. far beneath the city.. to hide.. to be safe until the assassins gave up or found the box and went on their way…then that damn rat. Stupid creature jumped at her in the dark.. landed in her hair and the book flew out of her grasp. Without thinking she snatched it out of the air before it could touch the foul smelling water of the sewers that had already all but ruined her soft leather boots. The book fell open in her hand. Colors swirled before her eyes, she felt like she was falling, being pulled along by a string tied securely to her spine. She screamed, silently chiding herself for giving away her position to her stalkers, and then everything went black.

Tesia awoke on a strange shore, the Autumn moonlight danced across the waves in a million shades of dark chaotic color. The book in her hand had been dampened my the waves. She glanced down at it in the moonlight.. all the pages were blank. Her fingers trembled and tingled with swirls of dark color as she held the blank pages in her hands.. what had been so important about a blank book… And why did she feel so strange..
